Recap: Mélange Vienna 2019!

Updated: Aug 11, 2019

The inaugural Mélange Vienna festival came to an end on Thursday evening with the final participant recital in Mozarthaus Vienna's Boesendorfer Hall! Crazy how quickly the time has flown, not only during the ten days of the festival, but also throughout all of the planning and preparation leading up to it. "Surreal" is the word that comes to mind...

Master class with Mag. Rico Gulda at Klaviergalerie Vienna!

As I reflect on the last two weeks, and even as I begin working on Mélange Vienna 2020, I am especially grateful for the fantastic crew of people who came together and worked tirelessly to make this event possible!

I hope that, by offering you a brief "recap" of this year's festival, you will have a chance to enjoy it as well, and maybe even think about adventuring with us in 2020 (Beethoven's 250th birthday! Stay tuned for more to come...)!

Participants had the chance to take in Michael Haydn's Aloysium Mass in the St. Stephen's Cathedral

In the first few days of the festival, participants had most of their private music lessons and attended a phenomenal opening faculty recital at Salon Brahms. We also took in the Vienna Mozart Orchestra at the Musikverein, Haydnhaus (an apartment in which the great composer lived and passed away, which has been turned into a museum), and visited both the Zentralfriedhof (where Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, and Strauss are buried), and St. Mark's Friedhof (where Mozart is buried in an unmarked grave).

The students also enjoyed group German classes and solo practice time

nearly every day at the Klaviergalerie Vienna. This "rhythm" created a wonderful environment that gave students the opportunity to directly apply what they learned. Students also listened to lectures by esteemed faculty with topics such as Classical Piano Style and Music on the Brain.

The last half of the festival consisted of a Vienna day trip (which you can see pictures from in the last blog post!), as well as both master classes with Viennese-trained artist-teachers, and participant recitals at Salon Brahms, the United Nations Vienna's rotunda, and Mozarthaus Vienna...what a line up!

Thank you to everyone who made this whole event possible, and to the 15 dynamic musicians who spent the last 10 days with us in Vienna. I hope that you have memories that will last you a lifetime - I know that I do! If you would like to see more pictures of Mélange Vienna 2019, check out our Facebook Album.

See you next year, Vienna!

Auf wiederschauen!
